Company History

1970 DOUGLAS AQUATICS, INC. was formed by F. Douglas Salvia and Douglas W. Langford, hence the DOUGLAS in Douglas Aquatics. This new business devoted its pool activities exclusively to contract swimming pool management. The young company managed eight swimming pools successfully in 1970.

December 1972 F. Douglas Salvia bought out Douglas W. Langford to become sole owner of DOUGLAS AQUATICS, INC. Douglas Aquatics then expanded, offering swimming pool management, equipment sales, chemical sales and full repair of commercial and residential filtration equipment.

1974 Douglas Aquatics took its first faltering steps into residential concrete swimming pool construction. This now broadened Douglas Aquatics so that it could provide a wider range of services to its growing list of customers.

1977 Douglas Aquatics was operating 75 commercial pool facilities under contract, was constructing over 50 residential swimming pools per year, and had started to enter the commercial swimming pool construction market.

1986 The firm opened its first location in Hampton, Virginia; trading as DOUGLAS AQUATICS OF HAMPTON. The new location specialized in commercial swimming pool management and residential and commercial swimming pool repairs and renovations.

1990 Thomas Gabriel Crouch acquires 10% ownership of Douglas Aquatics, Inc., and becomes Vice President of Commercial Pool Operations Department as well as Secretary and Treasurer of the Corporation.

1996 Thomas Gabriel Crouch acquires 20% ownership of Douglas Aquatics, Inc.

1997 Named as one of the top 100 pool firms by Aqua Magazine

1998 Named as one of the top 100 pool firms by Aqua Magazine

April 2000 DOUGLAS AQUATICS OF HAMPTON moved to 1007-A North King Street in Hampton in order to have a retail showroom and warehouse. The new location provides the Hampton office the capability to sell and install residential above ground and in-ground Liner swimming pools and Emerald whirlpool spas.

2000 Douglas Aquatics opened its second location in Hartfield, Virginia (just west of Deltaville); trading as DOUGLAS AQUATICS OF THE RIVAH. The Hartfield location has a retail showroom for the display and sales of Emerald whirlpool spas, Bioguard and Baquacil lines of pool chemicals, toys, games, furniture, equipment and parts. Douglas Aquatics of the Rivah performs residential route service, residential and commercial equipment and masonry repair services, electrical installation and repair, sales and erection of above ground pools and construction of in-ground Liner and Gunite residential swimming pools.

Named as one of the top 100 pool firms by Aqua Magazine

2003 Douglas Aquatics opened its third location in Fredericksburg, Virginia; trading as DOUGLAS AQUATICS OF FREDERICKSBURG. The new location will initially specialize in commercial swimming pool management and residential and commercial swimming pool repairs and renovations.

2005 Douglas Aquatics opened its fourth location in Charlotte, North Carolina; trading as DOUGLAS AQUATICS CHARLOTTE. The new location will initially specialize in commercial swimming pool management and residential and commercial swimming pool repairs and renovations.
